Favours

We went to see our Greek friends Evi and Kostas last week. They had a baby girl just before Xmas so we went bearing gifts - a little outfit and a pack of tights for the new baby and a toy lorry for George her older brother. Evi gave us a 'favour' each, which she had made, and said that they were from the baby. I thought it may have been a tradition but I cant find any information about it so I can only think Evi decided it was a nice way of saying thank you. The choccies were nice too!

How good am I at predicting the future? Not very is the real answer but I did get one thing right the last time I posted way back in September and that was I knew I wasn't going to be able to keep this blog up to date.

So fresh start this year - would have been if it wasn't already half way through January! I suppose what I should do is use this as a diary of sorts, recalling all the momentous events in my life but as our lives are fairly humdrum there will probably be a few empty pages.

I'll start with a friends 60th birthday party just before Xmas. For some unknown reason she wanted to dress up and put on a little show for her guests. She co-erced her partner, a friend and Steve to dress up as Abba and mime to Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen and then later on just her and her partner sang along to a couple of Sonny and Cher tracks. It was a good night, very enjoyable and the entertainment went down well despite costumes getting lost in the post and suitcases being stollen but that's another story. I felt that I had to mark the occasion in a small way so wrote a small ditty and 'blinged' a rubber glove as a surprise. Steve was my noble assistant encouraging audience participation by holding up a photo, which I had photoshoped and enlarged, when they needed to join in with the chorus. Sadly I missed a verse out so Steve missed his cue and we had a small domestic which broke the ice and we ended up with everyone laughing which was the whole point.

Peter Peter
C’mon Pete, wake up, rise and shine
Let’s get cracking its cleaning time

CHORUS Isn’t it a pity everywhere gets so sh…y
And it all has to be cleaned up

Breakfast’s on the plate ready and waiting
Just toast and jam there’ll be no debating
No sausage beans bacon or eggs
The washing’s just finished please hand me the pegs
CHORUS

The house is a mess and I need a hand
The terrace is dirty and covered in sand
The cupboards and shelves are thick with dust
To clean and polish them is a must
So pick up the mop, put the rubber gloves on
Let’s get started don’t get feint hearted
CHORUS

The dogs need a walk they’ve got to be fed
You do that while I strip the bed
I’ve shook the quilt but the sheets need changing
Look at the pillows they all need arranging
CHORUS

I’ve mopped the bathroom so please don’t slip
We haven’t the time for a hospital trip
The loo is fresh and so is the floor
Let’s hope no one misses their aim anymore
CHORUS

The kitchen needs wiping in the fridge there a whiff
Leftover food where’s my bottle of cif
The pots and pans are all clean the cutlery’s been polished
A dish has been bost I wonder how much its replacement will cost
CHORUS

On my hands and knees with my bum in the air
Scrubbing the floor this just isn’t fair
Pete in his usual manner says without even a stammer
Look at that booty, I must do my duty,
Fancy a quickie? Huh stop taking the mickey
CHORUS

Lunch by the bar in the pool then well have a dip
Or would I prefer a Campari to sip
I would have bought Pete a beer but there’s non left I fear
So while I have a pee make a pot of tea there’s a dear
CHORUS

This retirement lark leaves me in the dark
I’m not sure how I thought it would be
Sugar and spice all things nice and plenty of time for me
But let’s not pretend we have more time to spend
Doing those jobs we hate and
CHORUS
