Kaikoura (22.01.16)

We had a very good ferry crossing from Wellington to Picton. The sun was shining, (it was warm enough to sit outside!) the sea was calm and the views were spectacular.  The plan was to drive straight to Kaikoura so as soon as we had disembarked we set off on our way.

Kiakoura is a seaside town and is well known for the wildlife that can be seen there.

The roads were quiet and the few cars we did meet were soon despatched but I must give Steve his due he is being very good and is driving very carefully and within the speed limits.  The roads are the roads of Steves dreams and his only wish is that he was driving a porche instead of an old hire car. The New Zealanders seem to be very considerate drivers especially the truck drivers who will pull over to let you past and they all stick to the speed limit
The journey went very quickly and we soon reached our accommodation, again outside the town. The hotel was owned by a guy whose ancestors were Irish and there was a definite theme to the place, Irish music playing in the bar, Guiness on tap and Irish stew on the menu!  The settings and garden were absolutely beautiful and the mountains a dramatic backdrop.
I was looking forward to romorrow as we had booked a trip to see the dusky dolphins. Steve not so much as he has been known to get seasick!
