I can't help feeling a little bit disappointed, I suppose it is because its not what I expected. I wanted mountainous roads with sharp bends zigzagging their way to the summit. Instead the mountains were covered with the thick dense forest which could feel a tad oppressive at times.

As we had plenty of time to get to Franz Josef glacier we took a small detour to the Fox glacier or at least as far as we could get in the car. We were not equipped to walk and I'm no longer physically able to walk very far so we had to make do with the car park, but I managed to get a photo of the lower part of the ice flow
